About Me

Septic Solutions: An Introduction

I recently bought a house with a septic tank for the very first time. I thought I was prepared, but I really had no idea what I was getting into. Shortly after we moved in, the septic tank backed up. I had to call for emergency septic services to have it pumped and taken care of. That's when I learned that I had overlooked some of the signs that the tank needed to be emptied. I created this site to share my experience and the tips that I learned along the way. My goal is to help others avoid the same septic problems that I have dealt with.

What To Expect When You Have Your Septic Tank Pumped

by Camila Pena

Whether you're moving into a home with a septic tank or building a house on a lot that requires a septic tank, you will need to be prepared and know how to take care of it. A septic system performs just as well as a municipal sewer system, but it does require a little more maintenance. One important task that you will need to stop on top of is having your septic tank pumped before waste levels exceed capacity. In order to have your septic tank pumped, you will need to hire a certified septic pumping service. Continue reading to learn more about what you can expect when you have your septic tank pumped:

Detecting the Location of Your Septic Tank

Septic tanks are typically buried underground, so a septic pumping service will need to know where your septic tank is and where the lid to the tank is located. Ideally, you should have this information available and on hand before the septic technician arrives for the appointment. In the event that you don't have the documentation that shows the location of your septic tank, the septic pumping services with have equipment and methods to detect the location, but it is important to note that you may be charged extra for location detecting services.

Waste Removal

Septic pumping services use very strong hoses to pump out both the liquid and solid waste in your septic tank. The waste is pumped into the septic pumping service's truck and then disposed of according to strict environmental regulations. While your septic tank is being pumped, the septic technician will carefully watch for any signs of backflow from your tank's outlet pipe. If they see a large amount of backflow from the outlet pipe, it often means that your septic drainfield is clogged and needs to be repaired.

Inspection

After all of the waste is removed from your septic tank, the septic technician will do a full inspection of the components found inside the tank. During this inspection, the technician will be looking for any issues that should be addressed and repaired while the tank is near empty. When the inspection is completed, the septic technician will provide you with a report and let you know of any issues that may have been discovered. Once your septic tank is emptied, you most likely will not need to have it pumped again for a few years, depending on the size of the tank and the number of people living in your home.
