Septic Solutions: An Introduction

I recently bought a house with a septic tank for the very first time. I thought I was prepared, but I really had no idea what I was getting into. Shortly after we moved in, the septic tank backed up. I had to call for emergency septic services to have it pumped and taken care of. That's when I learned that I had overlooked some of the signs that the tank needed to be emptied. I created this site to share my experience and the tips that I learned along the way. My goal is to help others avoid the same septic problems that I have dealt with.

What Happens When You Get Your Commercial Grease Trap Cleaned

by Camila Pena

When you run a commercial kitchen, you are generally required by the city to have a grease trap in place. A grease trap prevents all the grease that gets into your drains from clogging up the city's sewer lines.

Where Grease Traps Are Located

Where your grease trap is located depends upon the set-up of your business. Some businesses have a grease trap that is set-up right next to the sink within the food trap area. These types of traps are generally made out of either metal or plastic and are placed right on the floor or are recessed into the ground. Plastic is the preferred material used in new grease traps because it doesn't rust and corrode over time like a metal grease trap does.

Other businesses have grease traps that are much larger and are located right outside of their business. These grease traps are really large and are generally dug into the ground. Outside grease traps are generally made from concrete, as it is a strong material that can withstand the pressure of dirt and the waste from the grease trap.

How Grease Traps Work

A grease trap is just that, it is a trap that separates out grease, fats, and oils that are in your wastewater. It takes the grease, fats, and oils from the wastewater and it keeps those substances from getting into the rest of your drain lines and from getting into the city septic system.

Cleaning a Grease Trap

Cleaning out a grease trap is not easy work. It is a really messy job if you try to do it on your own. It is something that one should hire a professional to do. A professional will bring in a pump and they will pump all the grease, fat, and oils out of your grease trap. It is a really quick process for a professional to clean out your grease traps and they will then dispose of the waste in an environmentally friendly manner.

If you run a commercial kitchen, you need a grease trap to collect all the grease, fat, and oils, and keep them from ruining your plumbing system and the city sewer system. It is best to have a professional come in and clean your commercial grease trap; they will be able to clean the grease trap out without making a big mess and will make sure that your grease trap is cleaned out in a timely manner to prevent the overflow of your grease trap.
