Septic Solutions: An Introduction

I recently bought a house with a septic tank for the very first time. I thought I was prepared, but I really had no idea what I was getting into. Shortly after we moved in, the septic tank backed up. I had to call for emergency septic services to have it pumped and taken care of. That's when I learned that I had overlooked some of the signs that the tank needed to be emptied. I created this site to share my experience and the tips that I learned along the way. My goal is to help others avoid the same septic problems that I have dealt with.

Septic Solutions: An Introduction

Routine Plumbing Maintenance Needs

by Camila Pena

It is often the case that homeowners may not be as diligent or concerned about meeting their home's plumbing maintenance needs as they should be. This can lead to them potentially experiencing some serious performance issues and malfunctions that could impact their quality of life and even contribute to property damage.

Drain Cleaning

The drains in the home will need to be periodically cleaned. A very noticeable benefit of drain cleaning work is that it can prevent powerful odors from forming as a result of bacteria growing in the drains. As a functional benefit, the process of cleaning the drains will eliminate some of the materials that could be impeding the flow of water through the pipes. Ideally, the drains in your home should be professionally cleaned every few years if you are to maximize the flow of water through them. To be thorough when cleaning the drains, tools that can reach deep into the drain may need to be used to reach the areas that are relatively deep in the line.

Sewer Line Inspections

The sewer line is a critical part of your plumbing that will need to be cleaned and inspected at regular intervals. Cleaning the sewer lines can minimize the risk of a clog forming due to solid waste and other debris that can get trapped in the line. Inspections are necessary for identifying potential structural defects or problems with the sewer line that could increase the risk of contaminated water seeping out into the yard. If damage to the sewer line is discovered, repairs should be scheduled as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could find that your landscaping is severely impacted by this leak. The water from the sewer line could erode the soil, and it can cause health problems for the surrounding plants as the constant moisture could lead to root infections.

Faucet Maintenance And Care

The faucets are the plumbing fixtures that you are the most likely to use regularly. Unfortunately, individuals often fail to recognize that this part of the plumbing will need routine care to keep it in good condition. More specifically, the gaskets in the faucet will have to be inspected as they can become brittle over time, and this can lead to leaks forming. Additionally, limescale can accumulate on the exterior and the interior of the faucet. If the limescale is not removed, it can substantially lower the quality of the water and impact the pressure of the water coming from the faucet.
