Septic Solutions: An Introduction

I recently bought a house with a septic tank for the very first time. I thought I was prepared, but I really had no idea what I was getting into. Shortly after we moved in, the septic tank backed up. I had to call for emergency septic services to have it pumped and taken care of. That's when I learned that I had overlooked some of the signs that the tank needed to be emptied. I created this site to share my experience and the tips that I learned along the way. My goal is to help others avoid the same septic problems that I have dealt with.

Problems With Your Septic? Signs Your Septic Filter Needs Repairs

by Camila Pena

If your septic system acts up after getting pumped, it's time to take a close look at the filter. If you didn't know your septic system had a filter, you're not alone. Many people don't know there's a filter in the septic tank. Unfortunately, a clogged filter can cause a lot of problems for your septic system. Luckily, a clogged septic filter is an easy fix. Your septic service company can clean the filter and repair the damage. If you're not sure your septic filter needs repairs, read the list provided below. Here are four signs that your septic filter needs repairs.

Drainage Is Slow

If you've got slow drainage through the pipes in your home, it's time to call your septic service provider. This is especially important if all the drains in your home are slow. Slow drainage is a sign that your septic filter needs attention. Once the septic filter gets clogged, liquid won't flow through to the tank. When that happens, waste gets stuck inside the drains. To clear out the drains, you need to have your septic filter repaired.

Pipes Are Gurgling

If your plumbing gurgles when you're not using the water, you need to have the septic filter inspected. The gurgling sound is a sign that waste is trying to settle inside the tank. Unfortunately, a clogged filter can prevent that from happening. If you're not sure where the gurgling is coming from, flush your toilets. If the gurgling gets louder, it's time to have the septic filter cleaned and repaired.

Septic Area Is Soggy

If you're concerned about your septic system, take a walk around the septic field. This is the area above your septic system. If the soil over the septic tank feels soggy, check your service calendar. If you've recently emptied your septic tank, you need to call for filter repairs. Soggy soil is a sign that wastewater isn't making it through to the seepage pit. Cleaning your septic filter will solve the problem. Your septic service provider can repair any damage caused by the clogged filter.

Wastewater Backed Up

If you've got brown water coming up through your bathtub drain, call your septic service provider right away. There are a couple of problems that can cause wastewater to back up into your bathtubs. One problem is an over-filled septic tank. Another problem is a faulty septic filter. If you've recently had your septic tank pumped, the problem is with your septic filter. Repairs to your septic filter will solve the problem.
